The relationship shared by a Mother in law and daughter in law is very spicy and full of ups and downs irrespective of which cast, creed, class or culture they belong to. This love-hate relationship is an universal phenomena. And this is what Mattichya Chulli is all about !!!
And ‘Mattichya Chulli’ is a realist portrayal of the psychology behind this relationship in a very light and jovial manner.
Sudhir Joshi who plays the only son of Vandana Gupte and Anand Abhyankar/ Sudhir Joshi, he falls in love with a daughter of a colonel called Priya. Priya is today’s girl with independent thoughts and both of them decide to marry each other. The saga of this story begins with their decision to do a court marriage rather then a traditional marriage. The story plays around with issues like generation gap between the mother in law and the daughter in law. And then the various funny incidences that follow as they start living under one roof. And in the tough-of war of this relationship the makers throw light on what happens to the men in the family while women are busy trying to get it their own way.
It is a very realistic portrayal of this relationship without making it very melodramatic .It is simple film that touches your heart at the same time make you laugh. It portrays the insecuries of a mother who feels distanced from her that son after he is married .It plays with what happens when members of the family have different priorities and value sets. The characters and the way they are set makes this film very relatable. Though very light and simple at one level makes the audience think about the complexity of this relationship without getting preachy!
