25 th August 2007 – Launch of the first ever 24 hour Marathi movie channel – Zee Talkies - by none other than Zee Network – always a pioneer in the entertainment industry. Zee Talkies brings you all your favorite movies, stars, music and just all about Marathi movies in your living rooms on your TV screens 24 * 7 all round the year.
The fort of Marathi Cinema had been built by some of the legendary personalities like Mr. Dadasaheb Phalke, V.Shantaram, Master Vinayak, Bhalji Pendharkar, Acharya Atre, Raja Paranjpe, G. D. Madgulkar, Sudhir Phadke, Dada Kondke and many more.
Marathi Cinema is as old as Indian Cinema. Marathi Cinema has been witnessing a golden era from 1913 till today. This magnificent journey began in 1931 when Dadasaheb Phalke – son of Maharashtra – released first movie in India, Raja Harischandra. Then V Shantaram came up with first Marathi Talkie Film ‘Ayodhecha Raja’ in 1932.
Again, ‘Shyamsunder’ – a Marathi talkie film celebrated silver jubilee for the first time in 1932. In 1937 Marathi Cinema took a leap forward and proved its existence overseas by winning best film award in Venice Film Festival – ‘Sant Tukaram’.
Then came an era of awards… Marathi Cinema again presented its brilliance – ‘Shyamchi Aai’ by Acharya Atre won first ever Persident’s Gold Lotus in National Film Awards, 1954.
During the last couple of decades, actors like Ashok Saraf, Laxmikant Berde, and Sachin Pilgaonkar have made the viewers to laugh out loud with their hilarious performances in movies like ‘Hamaal De Dhamaal’, ‘Gammat Jammat’. ‘Shejari Shejari’ and lots of smashing hits like these.
Recently, Marathi Cinema crossed the geographical as well as the linguistic barriers, which is quite evident from the fact that “Shwaas” stood as an official entry for Oscars, 2004.
Thus Marathi Cinema has always been an integral part of a Maharshtriyan household and we are sure it will continue to be so.
